UFOs and the Media by Nick Pope

Media coverage of UFOs is a thorny issue and one where the grass is greener on the other side. Some ufologists complain that the media don’t give the subject the coverage it deserves and even go so far as to suggest that the media are complicit in a government conspiracy to keep the truth about UFOs from the people. When there is coverage, other ufologists claim it’s the wrong sort of coverage and say that the subject is trivialised. What’s the truth of the matter and what’s really going on? In truth, the media is no more a single entity than is government. There are conflicting agendas and beliefs on all subjects - not just UFOs.

In so far as we can generalise, it’s fair to say that the media exists both to inform and entertain. It’s also important to remember that, generally speaking, when one talks of the media one is talking about businesses.

Media coverage of UFOs has increased significantly in the last year. This has been an international trend. This coverage has varied considerably. Some features are populist and light-hearted, while others are decidedly more mainstream. In the UK, The Sun has played a huge part in this process. They have an ongoing campaign to highlight UFO sightings and have taken the unprecedented action of running a UFO story as their main front page headline twice in the last year. Popular TV shows like GMTV, This Morning and the Alan Titchmarsh Show have run UFO features, while in America, Larry King Live has covered the subject extensively in the last couple of years.

The most interesting trend, however, has been the way in which the UFO phenomenon has increasingly been covered in a straightforward factual way in what one might term ‘Establishment’ media. Examples include The Times, The New York Times, Newsnight, Radio 4’s Today Programme, BBC World Service, ABC News, NBC News and Fox News. Some suggest that this is part of a programme of indoctrination, acclimatising the public to the reality of an extraterrestrial presence, prior to some sort of official announcement - Disclosure, as it has been dubbed. Others (myself included) believe there are other reasons for this - less conspiratorial, but interesting nonetheless.

I believe two factors lie behind the increased and more serious coverage we are now seeing. The first is the undeniable rise in the number of UFO sightings: Ministry of Defence figures show, for example, that the Department received over twice as many UFO sightings in 2008 than in 2007. The main factor, however, has been the ongoing programme to declassify and release to the National Archives the MoD’s entire holdings of UFO files - tens of thousands of pages of documentation. This process, complemented by similar releases in France, Brazil, Denmark and elsewhere, has shown the media that there is a serious side to the UFO phenomenon.

I now work as a freelance journalist and a media pundit and it’s clear to me what’s happened: journalists have - albeit belatedly - woken up to the fact that there’s a big story here. UFOs are not just something seen by members of the public driving down lonely country roads late at night. They’re seen by police officers; they’re witnessed by pilots; they’re tracked on radar; the MoD and the Civil Aviation Authority have reports of several near-misses in their files; the Defence Intelligence Staff has commissioned highly-classified studies into the mystery. Suddenly, this isn’t just a ‘silly season’ story or something that runs in what the media dub the ‘skateboarding duck slot’.

The bottom line is this: the media are covering the story because they’re interested and because they know the public are interested too.

I think what is going on, as

I think what is going on, as has been voiced before, are a multitude of subtly different agendas, most (but not all) of which are acting independently and unaware of the correspondingly covert machinations of the others, united only by ignorance, fear and greed. There is a bottom line here, put there by the arch Marionettes, in the form of a media divide which we are not permitted to cross.
Of course we cannot, and perhaps should never make assumptions, especially in the foggy area of Disclosure, but I do see the process gaining ground through greater media coverage and hence public acceptance/normalisation, even if it is only in The Sun or on local news stations. One could argue that it's the safe option - hardly then to be taken too seriously by the People That Matter... But who, really, are the 'people that matter', anyway?
One of the best ways to move a mountain is to crack the ground beneath. The mass media for all its brainwashing capabilities, its penchant for pouncing on whatever trend will make a witty headline like a pack of hungry hyenas - works with the 'common people' - not the more 'thinking' middle classes, and once you have the acceptance of them, you have influenced major public opinion even if it is a second hand one. This, together with released MOD files and mainstream science asking more questions - and it is as it incorporates more cutting edge technology - allows the more inquisitive members of society to start asking more questions and around and around it goes. Call me an optimist, but eventually the Marionettes have to buckle under this tsunami.

Lastly, have patience. It is a time of great awakening and we are ALL making it happen. Keep asking questions, keep raising consciousness, in all aspects of our lives, because they're all connected, and people do connect the dots eventually. Once you crack open one part of the puzzle, whether it's the Disclosure issue or human consciousness as a whole, the other parts seem to open spontaneously.

I think half the reason is

I think half the reason is because the government is paranoid that the UFOs will attack us if we attempt to cooperate with them. I think the other half is that they're afraid to even disclose the information because people are so closed minded and entrenched in their little beliefs that it would destabilize a huge part of society. I was skeptical about UFOs for the longest time until I started listening to Mysterious Universe. I'm not going to say that I'm convinced they exist now, but I'm definitely a lot more open minded when it comes to forming opinions about the paranormal. Also, if you guys didn't know, we're due for a solar storm in 2012 - which (although I'm normally not very adamant about things like this, I'm convinced that it's coming). Is it just me or has it seemed like there has been a greater frequency in solar flares over the last couple of years? I've been watching http://www.spaceweather.com/ over the last few years and I'm not a scientist, but I have noticed an increase in sunspots. I also have satellite internet, so whenever there's a solar flare the signal gets disrupted and I get a headache along w/ it. It could just be my ISP (the "high speed internet providers in my area" that I use in case you were wondering) but with the increase in reports of solar flares and articles like these I'm beginning to think that we really ARE in for a toasty treat in 2012 :/

Whilst there has indeed been

Whilst there has indeed been some coverage on independent TV stations across Britain, and even on some local BBC TV stations, there has been a concerted absence of any realistic mainstream news coverage on the BBC at national level. Despite Nick’s assertion that this is not deliberate and is because the national BBC news organisation does not see any ‘news value’ in the subject, I consider this explanation to be unlikely.

The UK government and the BBC itself hold the view that their national news organisation has a tradition of being the ‘authorised voice’ of the UK government, especially in times of conflict or for any other subject matter that may require a degree of ‘censorship’ to control exactly what material is broadcast to the nation.

There are many news aspects of the war the nation is currently involved in that will never be allowed to be openly shown on the BBC; arguably quite rightly. In other words these aspects are censored, as not relevant for general public knowledge or viewing.

It can be no coincidence that when other mainstream independent national news and serious documentary broadcasters see a definite commercial value in publicising the UFO issue, the BBC strangely do not. Even their local news controls allow some leeway in covering the issue, but you will never, and I mean never, see these reports passed up for broadcast on a national level. Nick may well be right about one thing….. the levels of censorship may well not extend down to local level as the BBC has lost formal control of the D notice at local level, with direct control having been eroded over a period of years as the BBC has successively reorganised it’s local news management structure.

I’m sorry Nick but this can only be for one reason, there is a long standing government ‘encouraged’ embargo on National BBC news coverage of this subject. It is patently obvious.

Having established this, the question has to be why? Especially now, when the subject is opening up by the day in all other areas of the media. It could be argued that this is just a hangover from past custom and practice. I suspect not given the other snippets of evidence we already know about…. Margaret Thatchers famous quote.. “You can’t tell the people being just one example. There have been ample opportunities with the recent activity over at the National Archives for this policy to be amended. I personally have seen no sign of this so far.

I might be able to add a

I might be able to add a little extra to the sum knowledge.

My comment here is a little long but necessary to explain our own experience with mainstream television commissioners (documentary production commissioners).

My piece here is based on UFO, Star Beings, Intuition, Crop Circles, Abductions, Animal mutilations, Awakening and those who prefer to keep latent human gifts quiet are all relative to a much larger picture.

Some years ago, I cracked my lower lumbar whilst filming abroad. I was part of a freelance film crew for mainstream documentary television.

Background: Following two failed spinal fusions I was unable to function properly and I could no longer work, which is not my nature.
I have filmed Kings, Queens, Politicians, Super wealthy and famine, now the street was to become my home and in severe pain.
At the 11th Hour I had what most people call an 'Inner Calling' or awakening. In mysticism they seek the state of enlightenment which I discovered was part of a similar path where one bursts into enlightenment.

During this Inner Calling I received a packet of information in one hit... All was going to be fine and it was.
I met my new partner shortly afterwards, she had a roof to share and she is a long term NDE experiencer (walk-in).
I was not able to do much but my life became more stable and had a roof over my head plus a new wonderful partner.

I had a small provideo camera left in my bag of belongings so whenever I could manage to get out I would attend a local metaphysics meeting and snap a bit of video footage from the table top. The footage I recorded started to build up into quite a nice refined collection of interviews which includes the following topics and much more:
1) A first class demonstration to the power of remote viewing - If you thought Project star-flop was a failure just watch our video launching free to view in December. I will post links nearer the launch.
2) An Interview I set up to talk with ET through two wonderful channelers known to communicate with ET or Star Beings as they prefer to be called. Not ET or Aliens please.
A) The Teachers - I asked questions about humans in general. B) Pleiades, Sirian and Andromedan representatives - I asked about Crop circles, abduction, animal abduction and of-course who was piloting these UFO's.
3) Three other interviews included people with P.h.D.'s on the subject of the great awakening (or Inner Calling as they/I prefer to call it).
4) An AI scientist was located through remote viewing successfully (took 8 minutes one evening) and later I did a web interview with the scientist who spoke about his invention which is a device like a phone to communicate with another intelligent realm (could be time travel or tapping into our collective consciousness or of-course the deceased realm). It is in early development made for the pleasure of building something useful however, there can be no doubt it works - In real-time, just like a phone and I know this will be so amazing when the other-side take up fuller conversations. The band is so narrow it is never used by humans! and they don't give lottery numbers sorry.

I hadn't intended to make a documentary but people around me inspired me to send tapes to TV. I continued to attend the meetings for healing mostly but I too realised how far a video like this could be taken if the right people took over and funded it. It surpassed the secret video in knowledge and crossed into science and technology, so I thought why not contact them.

During my own Inner Calling I had a peek into enlightenment and naturally I wanted to learn more. I was seeing visions of about 50 years ahead playing out in font of my head. Parallel universes running at the same time as this one is very real for me because I can see them now.

I had months of full-on Intuition and prophecy all coming true often saying the name of the person I didn't know who was about to email or call me.

Before this inner calling I had little understanding of homeless people on the uk streets or psychic people let alone enlightened masters, remote viewing, prophecy or vanishing despite my years in TV.

So my point about the media: We felt the remote viewing demonstration and science invention were both significant cases of evidence and something new for viewers (repeatable by challenge in public or private) however we were declined by three major UK channels and one major USA spiritual TV show. Hmmm

The most wonderful kicker is that with training we can all learn to become more intuitive but that's when one has to consider the world of secret societies who appear to have reportedly held secrets about our star origin and latent potential from the majority.
Who cares? well, we all need to evolve not just small groups with secret ancient knowledge as lovely people I am sure they are.

Our idea of filming 'Science meets the Mystic' is a wonderful heart felt attempt at bringing new technology and the mystic together both with a common purpose to demonstrate action at a distance or should I say communication at a distance but this concept fell flat with TV commissioners.

I dare say a non experienced TV star will eventually be awarded a UFO show commission which would be a shame because there are many experienced ufoligists out there who need more money for kit and immediate access to labs when star jelly appears or debris falls.

Long story folks :(-): I do respect TV commissioners. They have a difficult decision to make and have to please people by larger percent but we should all know that TV commissioner are being pitched by a minority with first hand experience, drive and more importantly tangible proof we can build on. I dare risk saying, the usual companies to be commissioned will indeed need your help, your video, your images to make their programmes but that choice my friends is yours. I prefer to stick with apprentice and master rather than shortcuts.
